Latest News from 8 Doors Distillery - 9 July 2021

This week we are wondering if we’ve somehow stepped into a time machine ;-) how can it be July already?!

Since our last newsletter we’ve been continuing to make progress with the build amidst the challenges of UK-wide material shortages. The steel frame is up, more foundations and the concrete slab have been laid, many purlins added and the interior drainage channels installed! And we’ve almost completed the cladding to the outside of the building.

Some progress pics (and a mix of Scottish summer weather) below…

The cladding is still a work in progress with more window openings to be created, including 2 on the front to showcase the stills on the left side of the building.

Here’s a view from the inside, the highest opening in the pic below is where our elevated tasting room window will be - and as long as the mist hasn’t come in you will get a spectacular view! ;-)

So what’s next? After we get the windows and doors installed the cladding will be completed, we’ll add the underfloor heating and additional floor screeds before we move onto the interior joinery, electrics and plumbing!

In the interest of balance we’ll offset the misty views above with a sunset view that was taken before the wall cladding was added. We can’t wait to be sitting at the front of the distillery with a dram on a night like that!

In other news you may have seen on our social media posts that we had a lucky encounter with Orca’s off the coast of John O’Groats - our blog post has all the info!

If you’re coming to the area and looking to spot Orca’s check out the Orca Watch website or why not try the John O’Groats Ferries wildlife cruise - you’ll see lots of local wildlife and may just be lucky with Dolphins or Orca’s!
